Is there a time limit for a DWI to go to court in Texas?
kittenhlk asked:
I was arrested for a DWI in Feb ’07, I haven’t been to court yet. Is there a time limit for them to convict me or release the charges?

When I lived in Houston, TX. I worked for Bail Bonding company for a couple of years. I saw DUI cases take from several months and one up to a year and a half.
What are the reasons for your postponements. What does your attorney tell you.
I know the judges use to like to dispose of DUI cases as quickly as possible and court appointed attorneys would try to plea them out. It was the defendants that wanted to fight them that took the longest because the courts docket may be overloaded. Then it could take 6 -12 months before a trial date came up.

Unless you are being held in jail until trial, doubtful there is a set time limit. Court dockets can get backed up and cause delays.

not an exact time limit, but you have the right to a speedy trail. you can forget about the charges being dropped, that’s not going to happen. and when you get an attorney he will reset the case many times causing you to fork out more money all of which is legal. so when your done spending all your money ($5k-20k) on an attorney, whither you beat the case or not, you lost.

Usually it is a year. After the year has occurred it is harder to get the charges to stick.
